In what could give a boost to India's ambitious infrastructure
funding plans, Akihiko Tanaka, president, Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) is set to visit India later this month.
"JICA president Akihiko Tanaka is arriving on June 17, 2013 for a three-day official trip to India," the agency said in a press release. Tanaka, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and finance minister P Chidambaram and is expected to discuss the possibility of JICA's cooperation in developing the master plan for the proposed Chennai-Bangalore corridor.
The meetings will also focus on preparation of feasibility study for a high-speed railway between Mumbai and Ahmedabad as well as new funding commitment towards the projects such as Mumbai Metro line III and campus development project of IIT Hyderabad. The proposed Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor for which Japan has committed $4.5 billion, is also expected to be on the agenda.
Tanaka is also expected to call on Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and take forward the prime ministerial talks that took place in Tokyo.
