Japanese sensibilities and emotional candor in their movies were brought alive in Chennai, as the four-day Japanese Film Festival began on Tuesday here.
The festival started with Swing Girls directed by Yaguchi Shinobu.
The movie revolves around a bunch of school girls in rural Japan and their approach to life and studies. An unexpected event that inspires them to discover their interest in music.
“Marking the 60th anniversary of the Japan- India diplomatic relations, the film festival celebrates yet another milestone in the journey,” said Masnori Nakano, Consul General of Japan at the inauguration ceremony.
The film festival inaugurated in the presence of Tamil Film Director Prabhu Solomon and cine artiste Poornima Bhagyaraj, is jointly organised by the Consulate General of Japan and Indo- Cine Appreciation Foundation.
The films will be screened at the Devi Sree Devi Preview Theatre, Vijayaraghava Road, T Nagar after 6 pm. The seats are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
