Epson leads India's projector sales

Japanese technology company Epson's India unit has announced that as per the latest Cyber Media Research report, the company has been ranked the No. 1 projector brand in the country in the second half of 2011 in terms of unit shipments.

The research report released earlier this month places Epson in the No. 1 position with a volume (unit shipments) market share of 13.2 percent and a value (customer revenue) market share of 15.7 per cent during July-December 2011.

Epson's nearest competitor in terms of unit shipments had a share of 10.7 percent, while the nearest competitor in terms of revenue had a share of 9.6 percent during the same period.

Epson is the worldwide leader in digital projectors with a market share of 22.6 per cent in 2010, as per Fututuresource Consulting.

As per the CyberMedia Research report, the India Digital Projector market recorded sales (unit shipments) of 194,528 units in CY 2011. Overall the market grew 42.9 per cent over the previous year.

The projector market is fragmented with 13 brands making up for 96 per cent of all shipments in CY 2011. The Education sector emerged as the key demand driver for digital projectors with 45 per cent share in terms of unit shipments in 2011.

The second half of 2011 (July-December 2011) saw LCD technology cornering 55 per cent of the market in terms of shipments. LCD projectors employ the '3 LCD' technology that was invented and pioneered by Epson.

Commenting on the news, Samba Moorthy, director, sales and marketing at Epson India said, "2011 was a tremendous year for us as far as sales of our projectors are concerned.

"We were able to grow by over 50 per cent and we expect to continue if not increase the momentum in 2012. We have launched projectors to cater to every conceivable need and price point and now have over 50 models for consumers to choose from."
