Sushi and More completes 1 year in Mumbai

Sushi and more, a Japanese take-away food store that opened its doors on May 6 last year with the intention of bringing Japanese food more closer to Indian homes, has is celebrating the "fabulous response" it has received since then.

"We have been promoting Japanese food in India since 2007 through import, events & exhibitions. Since it was about introducing a whole new cuisine, we realized that we need to get the Indian palette more accustomed to Japanese delicacies.

“That is how Sushi and more was born. The intention was to provide authentic, affordable & accessible Japanese food" says Anuj Jodhani, Director of Maidoindia.

Located in South Mumbai's Breach Candy area, there is a lot that happens inside the 200 square feet store.

All the food on their menu is prepared within the store while they also prepare fresh, ready to eat Sushi boxes which are sent to leading gourmet stores across the city, every morning.

"We start the pre-preparations by 8am, send fresh Sushi boxes to stores like Natures Basket and Foodhall by 10am and open the store to the customers by 11am" says Chef Shreeya Mitra who heads the Sushi and more kitchen team.

The menu consists of vegetarian & non vegetarian varieties of Sushi, Soups, Salads, Gyozas, Tempuras, Teriyaki Skewers, Japanese Curry and Bento Boxes.

"Many of our vegetarian customers are skeptical to try Japanese food for the first time as they do not believe Japanese food can be vegetarian. But once they have a bite, they are hooked on to it" comments Chef Shreeya.

Even though the main focus is on Take-Away orders, there are a few seats for guests who wish to dine or wait inside.

They also offer Home Delivery in the nearby areas of Breach Candy, Napeansea Road & Peddar Road and are slowly expanding the delivery range. Japanese ingredients to make Japanese food at home can also be purchased from the store.

"This is just the beginning of Japanese food in India and it'll be soon that one will find outlets serving Japanese food in every corner of the country" comments Hakuei Kosato, the Japanese Director of Maidoindia.

As they turn a year older, Sushi and more is now introducing new food products to their menu which would include Nigiri Sushi platters, Premium Bento Boxes and much more.

"The feedback received over the last one year has helped us develop a whole range of exciting food for our customers and we are sure that the new flavors would tingle their taste buds" adds Chef Shreeya.

Maidoindia, the company that has been promoting Japanese food & culture in India, now plans to open 2 new stores of this unique retail Fresh Japanese Food concept in the next 18 months

"We'll just have been open for a very short period of some 365 days. We are making are baby steps in our vision for delivering the best sushi and Japanese take-away and delivery service in India, and we will work better in order to deliver the best results for our customers.

“As expectations rise every year, we hope to be able to exceed peoples' expectations every time, by introducing innovative menus, better service standards, delivery options, and more." adds Kosato.
