Chief Minister Narendra Modi leaves on a four-day visit of Japan on Sunday, but the detailed itinerary sent out by his office on Friday says nothing about a possible meeting with Suzuki Motors officials.
In fact, another release from Minister of State for Industries Saurabh Patel described the reports about Maruti Suzuki “shifting parts of its Haryana plant to Gujarat as far from truth and a figment of imagination”. The release added that Maruti Suzuki had decided to set up a plant in Gujarat long back and it has no connection with the company’s Manesar plant.
Modi is scheduled to attend as many as 44 functions in Tokyo, Hamamatsu, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe provinces. This will be his second official visit to Japan, this one being on an invitation from the Japanese government.
He will travel from Tokyo to Hamamatsu and then from there to Nagoya by Japan’s bullet trains to have a “first-hand feel of the ride”, says a release.
Modi will discuss details of the project to connect Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Pune by a bullet train, besides the Ahmedabad-Dholera Metro bullet train project and two Japanese industrial parks to be set up by Japan in Gujarat as part of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
A big delegation of top industrialists and businessmen of Gujarat, who have forged Indo-Japanese partnership in different sectors, will accompany Modi.
Japan was a “partner country” in two previous editions of the state’s flagship biennial event “Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit”. However, Modi had earlier told The Indian Express that this visit would not be about the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat event in January 2013.
Geographically, Gujarat has a major share in the inter-state ambitious DMIC project undertaken by the Centre in collaboration with Japanese government.
The CM will also address leading corporate honchos of Japan and India at seminars on three different sectors to explore industrial investments.
He will participate in high-level round-table conferences to strengthen economic, industrial and cultural relations between Japan and Gujarat, and brief the audience about Gujarat’s
Vision for 21st Century.
Modi will also visit the modern seaport at Kobe to explore such a possibility back home.
