Datsun to launch two sub-Rs 4 lakh cars in India

Datsun, owned by Japanese car maker Nissan, plans to launch to new cars in India by 2014.

The vehicles will be priced below Rs 4 lakh, said Ashwani Gupta, program director, Datsun Business Unit, Nissan Motor, on Monday.

The company will also launch two vehicles each in Russia and Indonesia during the same period.

The cars will be designed and modeled in Japan and will be fully developed in India.

Nissan had discontinued the Datsun brand in 1981, and the 2014 launch will mark its re-introduction.

Nissan board member Mitsuhiko Yamashita had in May said the car maker was ramping up investments for the Datsun brand in the country, where the vehicle is expected to be a major player in the low-cost segment.
