NJapan’s Nissan Motor Co. hopes to sell the next-generation taxi that will become standard on New York streets to India and China, among other markets, media reports said,
Executive Vice President Andy Palmer told reporters in Yokohama last month that the company is negotiating sales of the NV200 commercial van with customers including an Indian taxi company.
Nissan also plans to release an electric vehicle based on the NV200 in 2014.
All taxis in New York, which currently consists of 16 models from nine automakers, will be switched to the NV200 over five years from October 2013.
The NV200 is equipped with a sunroof and comes with a bulletproof glass partition between the driver’s seat and rear seats.
