The Textiles Ministry today said participation of domestic players in International Fashion Fair (IIF) in Tokyo will help in boosting trade and economic ties between India and Japan.
The three-day long fair started today.
Textiles Secretary Kiran Dhingra, who is leading a apparel business delegation to Tokyo, inaugurated the India Pavilion at the Fair.
The Fair is Japan''s largest fashion business trade show.
"Indias participation in IFF Tokyo has grown to 155 booths. The fair is expected to bring 30,000 buyers in three days," an official statement said.
There was an overwhelming response of Japanese buyers in India''s pavilion, it said.
"This kind of participation will strengthen the India and Japan economic partnership and boost the trade. Under the India-Japan CEPA, India will be benefited by Japanese investments, technology and world-class management practices that come with it," Dhingra said.
Japan can take advantage of India''s huge and growing market and human resources, the statement added.
The fair attracts around 800 companies and delegates from 20 countries.
"The available data shows that India''s apparel trade with Japan has increased despite global slowdown," it said.
The bilateral trade between the countries stood at USD 13.72 billion in 2010-11.
