Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Japan to woo investors, is
interacting with Indian and Japanese businessmen at the India Center Foundation
in Tokyo.
"I invite everybody here to attend the Vibrant Gujarat summit, it is an
opportunity to meet India's top business leaders," Modi said.
Modi is scheduled to attend as many as 44 functions during visit to Tokyo,
Hamamatsu, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe provinces, during which he will interact with
Japan’s top leaders, business groups and even interact with India related forums
based there.
Amid speculation that he would be pitching for more investment from Suzuki
Motor Corp, Modi condemned violence at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant, stating
such incidents should not happen anywhere in the world.
Modi's visit to Japan comes at a time when Maruti Suzuki India has announced
a lock-out at its plant at Manesar in Haryana following violence on its
premises.
The delegation led by Modi is not likely to invite Suzuki to expand its
production capacity in Gujarat, but if the company decides on its own it would
be welcome, the sources added.
The Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Japan's Deputy Prime Minister
and top trade and industry officials.
Setting up of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Pune bullet train, Ahmedabad-Dholera metro
and two Japanese industrial estates in Gujarat figured on Modi's agenda,
official sources said.
